What is Allerwell?
Allerwell is an allergen identification application available on iOS, Android, and web. Users begin by creating a personal allergen profile, selecting from a database of common allergens including the major 14 food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy, sesame, celery, mustard, lupin, mollusks, and sulfites) as well as custom entries for less common sensitivities. The app uses the phone's camera and AI-powered image recognition to scan thr ee types of content: food packaging labels (reading ingredient lists via text recognition), restaurant menus (identifying dis hes and flagging potential allergen-containing ingredients), and individual food items (visual identification of common dishe s and ingredients). When a potential allergen match is detected, the app displays an instant alert with the specific allergen identified and the confidence level of the match. The multi-language label reading feature translates and scans ingredient li sts in over 15 languages, enabling use while traveling internationally. Users can save scan history for frequently purchased products and receive updated alerts if a manufacturer changes an ingredient list. A free tier covers basic scanning and aller gen profile management; details of any premium features are available on the product website. Important: Allerwell is an informational assistive tool, not a medical device. It may not detect all allergens, particularly in unlabeled foods, complex multi-ingredient dishes, or cases of cross-contamination. For severe or life-threatening allergie s, always verify ingredients directly with food manufacturers, restaurant staff, or your allergist. Do not rely solely on thi s app to make safety-critical dietary decisions.
